The Government of Canada is offering a free online session today, Thursday, August 20, for businesses interested in exploring opportunities to sell goods or services to the federal government. The seminar is organized by Procurement Assistance Canada, part of Public Services and Procurement Canada.
The session, “Introduction to Federal Procurement: The Basics of Selling to the Government of Canada,” will run online from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pacific Time, or 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern Time. It is available Canada-wide and will be delivered in English.
Participants will learn the basics of the federal procurement process, how the Government of Canada purchases goods and services, and where businesses can find additional information before deciding whether federal contracting is an opportunity they want to pursue. The session is intended for companies exploring whether doing business with the government is right for them.
The Government of Canada is one of the country's largest purchasers of goods and services, with contracts ranging in value from hundreds of dollars to billions. According to federal procurement information, smaller businesses receive, on average, the majority of the total value of contracts awarded each year.
Businesses can use CanadaBuys, the official source for federal tender and award notices, to search opportunities and contract history, register as suppliers, complete business profiles and access electronic procurement tools used to respond to certain opportunities.
A second free session is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, focusing specifically on finding opportunities and registering as a supplier, including a demonstration of CanadaBuys and SAP Ariba.
