Health Canada has issued a safety warning about certain PGST and GauTone photoelectric smoke alarms, saying the products may not meet Canada’s Residential Detectors Regulations. The department warned that the devices may fail to operate in the presence of smoke or fire, creating a serious safety risk for households that rely on them for early warning.

The advisory covers the PGST Independent Smoke Detector Sensor Fire Alarm System, listed as S11D-EN on the packaging and Model PG-S11 on the product, as well as the GauTone Independent Smoke Alarm Fire Protection Smokehouse Home Security System, listed as GT-441B-1 on the packaging and Model PG-S11 on the product. Health Canada said the alarms do not bear a recognized Canadian certification mark, meaning their compliance with Canadian safety standards cannot be confirmed.

Consumers are being told to stop using the affected alarms immediately, dispose of them according to municipal hazardous waste guidance, and replace them with a smoke alarm that carries a recognized Canadian certification mark. Health Canada also said the products were removed from sale online through AliExpress. As of March 10, 2026, AliExpress reported that 276 units had been sold in Canada, while no incidents or injuries had been reported to the department at the time of the notice.
