The Government of British Columbia says more than 150 new homes are now open for women and children leaving violence, across projects in Vancouver and Langley—described as the largest buildings yet funded through the Women’s Transition Housing Fund.

The province said the projects combine second-stage transition housing with long-term affordable units, delivered through BC Housing in partnership with community operators including YWCA BC and Ishtar Women's Resource Society.

The move adds new transitional housing capacity for women and their children leaving violence, aimed at easing pressure on shelter and support services in British Columbia. The Government of British Columbia said the newly opened units include 78 homes in Vancouver and 80 homes in Langley, delivered as part of a more than $100-million investment through the Women’s Transition Housing Fund.

BC Housing says its Women’s Transition Housing and Supports Program is designed for women and children who are at risk of, or who have experienced, violence—offering a temporary place to stay along with support services, referrals, and help planning next steps.
