Women and Gender Equality Canada announced $15.5 million in federal funding aimed at strengthening the capacity and long-term sustainability of national women’s organizations across the country.

The department said $14.5 million will be stewarded through the Canadian Women's Foundation to support groups working on justice, leadership, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender-based violence. Up to $1 million will support the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women in coordinating collaboration across the national women’s sector and with partners beyond it.

Why it matters: Stable, capacity-focused funding helps service providers keep programs running beyond short project cycles.

Who benefits most: Women relying on legal, counselling, safety, and empowerment services, including survivors of violence.

Practical step: If you need support, look up local women’s organizations and municipal/provincial service directories—new grants often translate into expanded intake and programming.
