New University Agreement Creates a Direct Pathway to Engineering Studies

Mount Allison University and Dalhousie University have signed a new five-year academic agreement allowing eligible students to begin their university studies at Mount Allison before transferring into Dalhousie’s Bachelor of Engineering program with credit for approved first-year coursework.
Under the agreement, students who successfully complete an approved year of full-time study at Mount Allison may apply to Dalhousie’s engineering program with advanced standing, creating a clearer academic pathway for students interested in pursuing an engineering degree.
The new pathway recognizes selected Mount Allison courses in chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science and the humanities as equivalent to Dalhousie’s first-year engineering requirements.
Admission is not automatic. Students must meet the applicable admission requirements and formally apply to Dalhousie University. Once admitted, Dalhousie’s Faculty of Engineering will oversee their placement into an available engineering discipline.
Up to 10 students may enter the pathway during its first year. Both universities will review the program’s capacity annually based on demand and available resources.
Dr. Richard Isnor, Mount Allison’s Provost and Vice-President, Academic and Research, said the agreement enables students to begin their university experience at Mount Allison while developing a strong academic foundation for further engineering studies.
Dr. Yi Liu, Acting Dean of Dalhousie’s Faculty of Engineering, said partnerships with universities such as Mount Allison are an important part of the faculty’s growth and its efforts to create clear routes into engineering education.
The agreement offers an additional option for students who wish to complete their first year in Mount Allison’s smaller university environment in New Brunswick before continuing their engineering education at Dalhousie in Nova Scotia without losing credit for the approved courses completed through the pathway.
