Ontario family finds a gecko stowaway in a suitcase after returning from Mexico
Latest news on WhatsApp أجدد الأخبار على واتسابAn Ontario woman discovered an unexpected traveller after a late-night return from Mexico: a live, roughly three-inch gecko inside her suitcase. She said the lizard darted out when she opened the bag to grab a pillow, and the family later tracked it down after it slipped under a bed.
After keeping the gecko warm, the family named it “Carlito” and contacted a reptile sanctuary in the Peterborough area. Parker then drove about 60 kilometres that same night to deliver the animal, saying she played classical music on the way to keep the trip calm.
The sanctuary’s manager said reptiles sometimes arrive in Canada accidentally via plants or shipments, but a suitcase stowaway is rare. Staff assessed the gecko as slightly dehydrated but otherwise healthy, and it will remain in quarantine while being monitored before any next steps.
