Toyota recalls Corolla Cross Hybrid over pedestrian risk

Toyota has recalled about 74,000 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles in the United States over a fault in the external pedestrian warning sound, which could make the vehicle harder to hear while reversing and increase the risk of an accident involving a pedestrian.
The recall covers certain 2023, 2024 and 2025 model year vehicles. Toyota said the issue affects the external warning sound designed to alert nearby pedestrians when the hybrid vehicle is moving at low speed, but the sound may be quieter than required in some reversing situations.
Toyota added that the same recall affects about 9,096 vehicles in Canada from model years 2023 to 2025, with dealers set to update the related software free of charge.
Owner notifications are expected to begin by late May 2026. Toyota is advising affected drivers to check their vehicle status using the VIN and contact their dealer once the official notice is issued.
