Ten people, including the suspected shooter, are dead after a mass shooting at a high school and a connected second location in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

RCMP said officers received a report of an active shooter at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School at about 1:20 p.m. local time on Tuesday, Feb. 10. A police public alert was issued and later cancelled at 5:45 p.m., after police said they did not believe there were any outstanding suspects or an ongoing threat to the public.

Police said the suspect was found dead at the school from what appeared to be a self-inflicted injury. Six additional victims were found dead inside the school, while a third victim died while being transported to hospital. Two people were airlifted with serious or life-threatening injuries, and approximately 25 others were assessed for non-life-threatening injuries at the local medical centre.

RCMP said a secondary location believed to be connected to the incident was identified, where two more victims were found dead at a residence. Major Crime investigators have taken conduct of the investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances and motive.
