Canada’s largest breast cancer fundraiser closed its 35th annual edition Sunday with $18 million raised and more than 65,000 participants and volunteers taking part in communities across the country.

The nationwide CIBC Run for the Cure unfolded at more than 50 locations on October 4, bringing together survivors, patients, families, volunteers and supporters for one- and five-kilometre routes. Events were held from Vancouver and Toronto to Montreal and communities across the Prairies and Atlantic Canada.

Sunday’s fundraising will support breast cancer research and clinical trials as well as programs providing practical help and reliable information to people navigating diagnosis and treatment. The funds also contribute to advocacy efforts aimed at improving prevention and access to earlier screening.

The event comes as breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Canada. An estimated 32,400 women and 300 men are expected to receive a breast cancer diagnosis in 2026, while about 5,460 people are projected to die from the disease.

Long-term outcomes have improved substantially. The five-year breast cancer survival rate among women in Canada has reached 90 per cent, while the overall death rate has fallen by nearly half since the early 1990s, when the Run for the Cure began.

The annual event has now generated approximately $558 million for the breast cancer cause since its launch. The 2026 edition also marks CIBC’s 30th year as title partner of the fundraiser
