Alternative to Injections: UAE Approves a New Once Daily Pill for Obesity Management

The Emirates Drug Establishment has approved a new oral treatment for chronic obesity management, marking a notable step in the global shift toward easier alternatives to injectable therapies that have dominated this field in recent years.

The medicine, marketed as Foundayo, is positioned as a once daily option that could reduce treatment burden for some eligible patients, especially those looking for a simpler approach to long term weight management. That is what makes this development significant. It is not just about a new product entering the market, but about an oral option moving into a treatment space still strongly associated with injections.

The UAE decision also carries broader weight because it places the country among the earliest markets to authorize the medicine, at a time when health systems and drug makers are increasingly focused on expanding obesity care choices and improving access for patients who may not start or remain on injectable treatment.

According to the regulator, the approval is based on clinical data showing meaningful weight reduction when the treatment is used as part of a broader lifestyle modification plan. The medicine is expected to become available to eligible patients in May 2026, opening the door to a new phase in obesity care that treats the condition as a chronic disease requiring more than one treatment path.
