B.C. to lock the clock after March 8, 2026; Ontario still waiting

The British Columbia government says the one-hour time change on Sunday, March 8, 2026 will be the province’s last seasonal clock shift. Under the plan, B.C. will stay on daylight time year-round and will not move back in the fall on Nov. 1, 2026, the date previously scheduled for the next switch. The province says the goal is to remove the disruption of changing clocks twice a year and simplify scheduling.
Ontario, meanwhile, continues to change clocks. A 2020 Ontario law would allow the province to move to a permanent time standard, but it requires a formal government proclamation before it can take effect. Canadian reporting has said Ontario prefers to move in step with Quebec and New York to avoid time gaps that could complicate commuting, business hours, and cross-border activity.
In New York, legislative proposals in recent years have focused on studying options related to ending the clock change. Any permanent shift in the United States would still depend on the broader federal framework and the path lawmakers choose.
