Ottawa Offers Free Transit for Two Days to Mark Bytown’s 200th Anniversary

As Ottawa marks 200 years since the founding of Bytown, the city is offering free public transit for two days, from 3 a.m. Saturday, September 26, until 3 a.m. Monday, September 28.
The free service covers all OC Transpo buses, O-Train Lines 1, 2 and 4, as well as Para Transpo, allowing residents and visitors to travel across the capital without paying fares throughout the weekend.
The City of Ottawa said the initiative is intended to make it easier for the public to reach events and celebrations taking place across the city, including the Ottawa 200 Block Party and other activities scheduled throughout the weekend.
The celebrations on September 26, 2026, mark two centuries since Bytown was founded in 1826, before the settlement later became known as Ottawa.
