Eleven schools across Ontario’s Kenora District were closed on Friday, March 6, 2026, after bomb threats reported in the Dryden, Red Lake, and Sioux Lookout areas, according to Ontario Provincial Police information cited by local outlets.
Police said the threats were reported shortly before 7:00 a.m. Central time and the closures were put in place before students arrived. School staff, supported by local OPP detachments, carried out interior and exterior walkthroughs, and no suspicious items were found during those checks, police said.
The OPP North West Region Crime Unit is leading the investigation with support from affected education authorities. Fort Frances Times also reported a later correction from police stating the impacted schools were in the Kenora District and not necessarily all under a single school board.
Local reporting added that at least two Northwest Catholic District School Board sites were among the closures, including Sacred Heart School in Sioux Lookout and St. Joseph’s School in Dryden, with schools expected to reopen Monday, March 9 unless advised otherwise.
OPP asked anyone with information to contact 1-888-310-1122, or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
