Canada’s Federal Court set aside a government order to wind up TikTok’s operations in the country, allowing the company to keep operating its Canadian business for now, and sent the matter back to Industry Minister Mélanie Joly for reconsideration, Reuters reported.
The order, issued in November 2024 after a national security review under the Investment Canada Act, required TikTok Technology Canada, Inc. to wind up its Canadian business. Ottawa said at the time it was not blocking users’ access to the app or their ability to create content.
Reuters said Federal Court Justice Russel Zinn set aside the order in a brief judgment and returned the case to Joly for a new review, without providing detailed reasons. TikTok welcomed the ruling and said it looked forward to working with the minister, while the department did not immediately comment, Reuters added.
