Canada’s updated travel advice urges travellers to exercise a high degree of caution in Cuba due to shortages of basic necessities, including food, water, medicine, electricity and fuel, noting the impacts can reach resorts as well. The advisory also warns of long scheduled daily power cuts and the possibility of unexpected nationwide outages lasting more than 24 hours.
In parallel, a Canadian Press report quotes former Canadian envoy Mark Entwistle saying Canada could be “caught in a vise grip” if Washington escalates pressure on Havana, with former diplomats suggesting Ottawa is likely preparing contingency plans for multiple scenarios.
