New Canadian Food Recalls Include Oysters Over Salmonella and Products With Undeclared Allergens

Canada’s official recalls and safety alerts page has listed several recent food recalls, including certain Five Star Shellfish Inc. oysters over possible Salmonella contamination, Wu Xian Zhai products due to undeclared wheat and egg, and pure maple syrup products due to container integrity defects and spoilage.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the oyster recall affects certain Five Star Shellfish Inc. products, including Malpeque oysters, Conway Pearls, Blackberry oysters and Gooseberry oysters, with harvest or processing and shipping dates in late June 2026. The affected products were distributed in Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec, and consumers are advised not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute them.

CFIA warns that food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness, especially among young children, pregnant women, seniors and people with weakened immune systems. The agency said no illnesses had been reported in connection with the recalled oysters at the time of the notice.

Another recall involves Wu Xian Zhai Vegetarian Beef (Sauce), sold in 108 g packages, because the product contains wheat and egg that are not declared on the label. The product was distributed in Ontario, and people with wheat or egg allergies, celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders are advised not to consume it.

CFIA also recalled several Wu Xian Zhai Soybean Snacks due to undeclared wheat and/or egg. The affected products include Five Spices Flavor Soybean Snack, Spicy Flavor Soybean Snack and Sauce Flavor Soybean Snack, distributed in British Columbia. Consumers are advised to check their products and either throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.

The latest alerts also include 9227-8712 Québec Inc. and L’Érabeille brand Pure Maple Syrup, sold in 540 ml containers, recalled because of container integrity defects and spoilage. The affected products were distributed in Ontario and Quebec, and should not be used, sold, served or distributed.
