Canadian authorities increased security around several U.S. and Israeli diplomatic sites in Toronto and the Ottawa region after gunfire struck the U.S. consulate in downtown Toronto early on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, with no injuries reported. Police and federal authorities continue to investigate the case while the search for the suspects remains ongoing.
Toronto Police said officers were called at about 5:29 a.m. to reports of gunfire at the consulate building at 361 University Ave. When they arrived, investigators found shell casings and signs of damage at the scene. Police also released an image connected to the investigation and asked the public to help identify the vehicle and suspects.
According to matching reports, two men got out of a white SUV, fired handgun shots at the building and fled. Authorities have not announced a confirmed motive, while the Royal Canadian Mounted Police joined the investigation through national security teams in coordination with Canadian and U.S. partners.
Ottawa moved quickly after the shooting to strengthen protection around sensitive diplomatic locations as a precaution against any further targeting. Prime Minister Mark Carney also condemned the incident and said those responsible would be brought to justice.
Police have said there is no indication of an ongoing direct threat to public safety, but the investigation remains active.
