Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke by phone with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as regional tensions continue to escalate, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
In the official readout, both leaders condemned Iranian missile and drone attacks on civilians across the Middle East, with Carney expressing Canada’s solidarity with the UAE.
Carney also thanked the UAE for protecting the thousands of Canadians who live there, the statement added.
The PMO noted Canada’s long-standing position that Iran has not dismantled its nuclear program, halted enrichment, or ended support for “terrorist proxies,” and said Canada is calling for de-escalation and an immediate end to attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
