Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived in Australia on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, as part of a wider trip to India, Australia and Japan aimed at diversifying trade links, attracting investment and expanding partnerships across energy, technology and defence.
Reuters reported Carney is expected to meet Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to discuss deeper cooperation on defence and maritime security, critical minerals, trade and advanced technologies including artificial intelligence, alongside outreach to business leaders and investors in Sydney.
The visit also includes a planned address to Australia’s Parliament in Canberra and a speech at Sydney’s Lowy Institute on shifts in the international order and the role of “middle powers.”
Reuters noted that Canada and Australia, both major critical-minerals producers and close U.S. allies, are looking to strengthen supply chains for minerals used in sectors such as semiconductors and defence applications as global supply dynamics remain highly sensitive.
