Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to China from January 13 to 17, 2026, in the first official visit by a Canadian prime minister to Beijing since 2017, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The PMO said Carney is expected to meet President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, alongside government and business leaders, with discussions focusing on trade, energy, agriculture, and international security.
The trip comes as Ottawa looks to diversify exports and reduce reliance on the United States, against a backdrop of recent Canada China trade tensions and retaliatory measures cited in related reporting
