Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to Doha, Qatar, on January 18, 2026, for a bilateral visit aimed at expanding trade ties and attracting foreign investment, his office said.
The Prime Minister is expected to meet Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and engage with business leaders and investors to promote trade, expand market access for Canadian exporters, attract investment into Canada, and pursue partnerships in artificial intelligence, infrastructure, energy, and security.
The Doha stop is part of a broader trip that includes a visit to China from January 13 to 17 and attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, from January 19 to 21.
Official figures put Canada-Qatar bilateral merchandise trade at $325 million in 2024. The visit will also mark the first trip to Qatar by a sitting Canadian prime minister.
