Canada says it has launched a wide reset with India built around trade, energy and innovation, with Prime Minister Mark Carney and Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirming a plan to conclude a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2026. Ottawa’s statement set an ambition to lift two-way trade to $70 billion by 2030.

Some international reporting cited a different 2030 trade target (such as $50 billion), reflecting varying measurement bases and reference periods, while still framing the visit as a bid to accelerate CEPA talks.

On energy, the two governments announced a Strategic Energy Partnership spanning LNG, LPG, uranium, solar and hydrogen. A flagship commercial step is a Cameco long-term uranium supply agreement, estimated at about C$2.6 billion, to deliver nearly 22 million pounds of uranium concentrate to India from 2027 through 2035.

The package also includes MoUs on critical minerals and clean energy cooperation, plus an effort to move toward a first long-term LPG arrangement. On talent and technology, Canada highlighted new university partnerships, research exchanges and scholarship funding, alongside space-agency cooperation on Earth observation and related innovation work.

Canada also pointed to expanded cooperation on law enforcement and security, including organized crime and fentanyl precursor flows, and said Carney invited Modi to visit Canada.
