Canada’s Conservative Party said delegates at its national convention voted to keep Pierre Poilievre as leader, backing him with 87.4% in a mandatory leadership review triggered after the party’s April 2025 election loss to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberals.
Poilievre lost his own seat in that election but later returned to the House of Commons after winning a by-election in August, according to Reuters.
Coverage of the convention said the party opted to put a straightforward question to delegates on whether they supported Poilievre remaining leader, rather than holding a separate vote on whether to proceed with a review.
In remarks before the result was announced, Poilievre emphasized national unity and said he would support efforts to lower U.S. tariffs and diversify Canadian exports, while avoiding naming the U.S. president directly.
