Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal are entering the Easter long weekend, running from Friday, April 3, to Monday, April 6, 2026, with broad service changes affecting municipal counters, transit, libraries and selected public facilities. Toronto and Ottawa have issued clear citywide notices, while Montreal residents are facing a more borough by borough schedule, making advance checks essential before heading out.

In Toronto, inquiry and payment counters at major civic centres will be closed from Friday through Monday and reopen on Tuesday, April 7. Community recreation facilities will be closed on Friday and Monday, while operating normally on Saturday and Sunday. St. Lawrence Market South will be closed Friday, Sunday and Monday, but open Saturday, while the Toronto Zoo, High Park Animal Display and Riverdale Farm remain open throughout the weekend. Toronto Public Library branches will be closed Friday, Sunday and Monday. On transit, the TTC will run holiday service on Good Friday, and a full Line 1 closure between St. George and St. Andrew will begin at 11:59 p.m. Friday and continue through Sunday. Major retail, LCBO and Beer Store closures are also expected on Friday and Sunday, with limited mall exceptions such as Eaton Centre.

In Ottawa, the City’s 3-1-1 service will be available only for urgent matters, while ServiceOttawa counters, provincial offences counters, the Business Licensing Centre, the city spay and neuter clinic and the municipal archives will be closed on Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6. There will be no curbside collection of garbage, recycling, green bin or bulky items on those two days, with Friday pickup moving to Saturday and Monday pickup moving to Tuesday, followed by one day delays for the remainder of the week. The Trail Waste Facility Landfill will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Friday and Monday. OC Transpo buses and O Train Lines 1, 2 and 4 will run on a Sunday schedule on Friday, with reduced weekday service on Monday, except for Lines 2 and 4, which will run normal weekday service. City operated museums, arts venues, public health sexual health and dental clinics, and municipal child care centres will be closed Friday and Monday. Ottawa Public Library branches will also be closed those two days, although selected branches will be open on Easter Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In Montreal, 311 will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Good Friday and Easter Monday, while Accès Montréal offices and permit counters will be closed on both days. Ecocentres will be open Friday, April 3, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., but closed Monday, April 6. Espace pour la vie facilities, including the Biodome, Biosphere, Botanical Garden, Insectarium and Planetarium, remain open over the holiday period. Cultural, sports, library and community facility hours vary by borough. Montreal’s public markets will stay open all weekend on special Easter schedules, and STM will operate holiday service on Friday and Monday, with Exo also posting holiday schedule changes for both dates. SQDC says its stores will be closed on Sunday, April 5, while SAQ notes that several branches will remain open that day.

The practical takeaway is straightforward: Toronto and Ottawa are seeing broader municipal and service closures on Friday and Monday, while Montreal’s picture is more uneven by borough and provider. The safest move this Easter weekend is to verify the exact branch, service or route before leaving home.
