In an interview with CTV News, General Tom Lawson, former Chief of the Defence Staff of the Canadian Army, categorically dismissed the possibility of any direct military action by the United States against Canada. Lawson emphasized that any military engagement involving U.S. forces directly confronting the Canadian population or army is entirely off the table, pointing out that the deep relationship between the two countries through NATO and continuous cooperation renders such a scenario unrealistic.
Lawson's remarks came in response to a poll published by The Canadian Press, which indicated that around one-third of Canadians and one-fifth of Americans believe that the U.S. might one day undertake a "direct move" to take control of Canada. Despite public concern, the general reaffirmed that military action remains highly improbable, stressing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
