Police services across the Greater Toronto Area say residents may notice stepped-up patrols and a more visible presence near places of worship and other sensitive public locations, describing the move as a proactive measure to reassure communities and deter any hate-motivated incidents amid heightened overseas tensions.
Toronto Police said it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Iran and any potential local impacts, and advised residents to expect an increased presence around places of worship and consular offices across the city.
York Regional Police said it is increasing outreach and patrols across the region, including near faith-based institutions, community centres, schools and public gathering places, adding it has no information suggesting a specific local threat at this time.
Durham Regional Police issued a similar update, saying residents may see an increased presence around places of worship and other key locations out of an abundance of caution.
Police are urging the public to report suspicious activity, threats or hate incidents immediately. For emergencies call 911. For non-emergencies: Toronto Police 416-808-2222, York Regional Police 1-866-876-5423, Durham Regional Police 1-888-579-1520.
