The federal government, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, said Justice Minister and Attorney General of Canada Sean Fraser will make an announcement related to the 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline at an event scheduled in Halifax on Jan. 16.

A media advisory said Halifax MP Shannon Miedema will also attend, with a news conference planned after the announcement. The advisory did not disclose details of what will be announced.

Canada’s 9-8-8 service is a national crisis support line that people can call or text at any time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for support related to suicidal thoughts or concern for someone else.
