Health Canada has issued a public advisory warning Canadians about counterfeit or unauthorized GLP-1 drugs being sold in Canada, including products marketed as Ozempic and Mounjaro.

The advisory says Health Canada has identified various retailers selling unauthorized GLP-1 products in stores and online. It also warns that some websites and social media ads misuse official Health Canada logos and display fake endorsements to mislead consumers.

Health Canada notes that unauthorized or counterfeit products may contain too much, too little, or none of the active ingredient, and may include unknown or dangerous ingredients or contaminants. Injectable products carry additional risks, including infections linked to lack of sterility, improper handling, or unsafe administration.

Health Canada advises Canadians to buy prescription drugs only from licensed pharmacies, avoid unauthorized products, verify authorization by checking the 8-digit Drug Identification Number (DIN) on the label and by searching the Drug Product Database, consult a healthcare professional if they have used an unauthorized product, and report side effects or complaints.
