The Canadian Space Agency said on Saturday, April 4, 2026, that Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen completed his first live space-to-Earth connection with Canada since the successful launch of Artemis II three days earlier. The agency said Hansen spoke live from the Orion spacecraft to CSA headquarters in Longueuil, Quebec, where he answered questions from Canadian journalists as the mission continued toward the Moon.
According to the Canadian Space Agency, Artemis II launched on April 1 at 6:35 p.m. ET as the first crewed test flight in the Artemis program. The agency also said the crew completed the main translunar injection burn on April 2, placing the spacecraft on its path toward the Moon in a mission expected to last about 10 days and cover more than two million kilometres.
The agency further confirmed that Hansen will take part in a second live space-to-Earth connection overnight on April 4 and 5, shortly before the lunar flyby, to answer questions from students, young people and members of the public across Canada. The event is scheduled to begin at 11:45 p.m. ET on April 4, with the video connection set for 12:25 a.m. ET on April 5.
The development comes as Canada continues its role in Artemis II, the first crewed mission to the Moon since 1972 and the first lunar mission to include a Canadian astronaut.
