Cunningham is a Westminster City Council member for Lancaster Gate and a former Crown Prosecution Service lawyer. UK media reported that she left her CPS role after joining Reform UK in 2025, citing strict neutrality rules that limit political activity for civil service-linked positions.
Appearing alongside party leader Nigel Farage, Cunningham said she would prioritise a tougher approach on crime, including rewriting London’s police and crime plan and focusing on knife crime, drugs, robbery, shoplifting, and sexual violence. She also pledged to scrap the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) if elected.
Cunningham, who says she was born and raised in London to Egyptian parents, is also a mother of seven. Her selection has drawn debate in Britain given Reform UK’s hardline stance on immigration, as outlined in the party’s published pledges and policy documents.
The mayoral election is due in 2028, while current London mayor Sadiq Khan has not confirmed whether he will run again.
