A major power outage disrupted parts of Halifax on Monday morning, April 27, 2026, leaving nearly 8,000 Nova Scotia Power customers without electricity.
According to the utility’s outage map, the outage was linked to a “transmission interruption.” The affected area stretched across much of downtown Halifax, from the Spring Garden area to the North End, and extended toward Dunbrack Street in Fairview.
Nova Scotia Power estimated that service would be restored by 1:15 p.m., though customers were advised to keep checking the official outage map as restoration times and affected customer numbers can change while crews assess the problem.
The utility generally advises residents during outages to stay away from any downed wires, use flashlights instead of candles when possible, and take extra precautions for seniors or people who depend on electric medical equipment.
