Mental Health Is No Longer a Luxury: Why Egyptian Women Should Ask for Help Early

Mental health is no longer a side issue in Egypt. Recent figures show that the national mental health hotline 16328 received 8,808 calls during the first quarter of 2026, including 3,874 psychological consultations and 252 emergency cases that required immediate intervention.
For Egyptian women, these numbers are more than statistics. They reflect daily pressures that many women carry silently: family responsibilities, work, motherhood, financial stress, relationship challenges, social judgment, and the constant expectation to stay strong.
Many women still describe anxiety, exhaustion, sadness, poor sleep, or loss of interest as “normal stress.” But these symptoms may be signs that professional support is needed.
Egypt’s Ministry of Health provides mental health support through the hotline 16328, along with an online platform for psychological consultations. This gives women a more private and accessible way to seek help, especially outside major cities.
This shift is also part of a broader health direction. The WHO-Egypt cooperation strategy for 2024-2028 includes strengthening health services, expanding digital health tools, and supporting wellbeing across different stages of life.
The message to Egyptian women is simple: do not wait until you break down. Asking for help is not weakness. It is a responsible step to protect your health, your family, and your future.
If a woman is experiencing thoughts of self-harm or feels in immediate danger, she should seek urgent help through 16328 or go to the nearest emergency service.
