Blue, Fringe and Bold Belts Shape Spring 2027 Fashion in New York

New York Fashion Week closed its Spring/Summer 2027 shows with a clear shift toward stronger colour, movement and playful details, as designers embraced shades of blue, flowing fringe and statement belts across collections from established American fashion houses and emerging labels.

Instead of relying mainly on the florals and pastels traditionally associated with spring, designers pushed toward more expressive palettes. Blue appeared in shades ranging from denim and navy to turquoise, teal and cobalt across collections by Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, Proenza Schouler and Sergio Hudson. Henry Zankov also brought teal to Diane von Furstenberg in his first collection as the brand’s artistic director following its return to New York Fashion Week.

Ralph Lauren explored blue through denim, satin and lace gowns, tailoring and statement collars, while Tory Burch paired turquoise with navy. Electric and cobalt blue also appeared in head-to-toe looks elsewhere on the runways, placing the colour among the strongest early trends for Spring/Summer 2027.

Designers also brought renewed attention to the waist. Chunky belts, scarves and cummerbunds were layered over dresses, shirts and tailoring, creating sharper silhouettes. Ralph Lauren wrapped fringed scarves around the waist, while Kallmeyer incorporated cummerbunds into looks that mixed womenswear with traditionally masculine tailoring.

Fringe emerged as another recurring feature, adding movement to dresses and jackets. Jonathan Simkhai used it on asymmetrical dresses, while Rachel Comey and Monse incorporated it into statement looks. Fringe also appeared at TWP, Ralph Lauren and Cult Gaia, reinforcing a broader move toward fluid, expressive clothing.

The season also carried a celebratory mood. Michael Kors and Carolina Herrera marked 45 years of their brands, while Coach celebrated its 85th anniversary with glittering dresses, oversized bows and gift-inspired accessories. Michael Kors staged his show in the garden at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, punctuating black-and-white looks with bright orange and yellow.

Tory Burch combined embellished pieces and vivid colour with practical sportswear, while Ralph Lauren opened the fashion week with a collection centred on individuality and personal style. Thom Browne took a more theatrical approach with an insect-inspired presentation featuring oversized colourful skirts and designs resembling butterflies, ladybugs and cocoons.
