Carney Heads to UN Next Week with Palestine on Canada’s New York Agenda

Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to New York City from September 21 to 23, 2026, to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where his schedule will include meetings with international and business leaders, while Palestine will feature in Canada’s program through a two-state solution event co-hosted with France and the United Kingdom.

During the visit, Carney will co-host an event with France and the United Kingdom on the two-state solution, one year after the three countries recognized the State of Palestine. Canadian government officials said the meeting will examine progress and the implementation of key priorities associated with that effort.

The event follows a September 8 joint statement by the leaders of Canada, France and the United Kingdom, who said they would co-chair a meeting during the General Assembly to advance their efforts on the two-state solution. The three governments also announced plans to take steps to prohibit imports of goods from Israeli settlements and introduce targeted measures against settlements and those who facilitate or profit from them.

Carney will also take part in bilateral meetings and international forums as Canada seeks to deepen its economic and security partnerships and broaden its international relationships. The Prime Minister’s Office said his agenda will also include support for Ukraine and Canada’s commitment to advancing a two-state solution for lasting peace in the Middle East.

His schedule includes an OceanEye International Alliance event with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and a roundtable on strengthening multilateral cooperation with European Council President António Costa and Kenyan President William Ruto.

Carney is not scheduled to deliver Canada’s address to the General Assembly during his three-day visit. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is expected to deliver Canada’s speech later in the session, while the prime minister focuses on bilateral meetings and other UN-related events.
