Ontario began implementing a new 110 km/h maximum speed limit today, August 21, 2026, on several additional sections of provincial highways as part of a broader plan covering about 938 kilometres of roadway.
The changes include Highway 7 from Appleton Side Road/County Road 17 to Highway 417 and Highway 115 from Highway 35 to the Parkway Interchange. Sections of Highways 400, 416 and 417 also move to the higher limit today.
In the Ottawa area, the new limit applies to Highway 416 from 1.5 kilometres south of the Highway 416/417 interchange to Fallowfield Road, as well as sections of Highway 417 from Leitrim Road to Ottawa Regional Road 174 and from the 416/417 interchange to Highway 7. The central Ottawa section between the interchange and Leitrim Road remains at 100 km/h.
The province says the increases are permanent on the designated sections, with additional changes scheduled for August 31 and September 30. Drivers should continue to follow posted signs, as the 110 km/h limit applies only where the new signage is in effect.
