The federal government is keeping enhanced financial support in place for post-secondary students for the 2026-2027 academic year, in a move aimed at easing pressure on students and families facing high education and living costs.

Under the decision, non-repayable grants will remain 40 per cent higher for full-time and part-time students, as well as for students with disabilities and students with dependants. The weekly Canada Student Loan limit will also stay at $300 instead of $210.

Ottawa says about 571,000 students are expected to benefit from the continued grant increase, while another 422,000 could benefit from the higher weekly loan cap, making the measure one of the most practical education supports ahead of the new academic year.

In practical terms, students are automatically assessed for federal grants and loans when they apply through their province or territory’s student aid system, with no separate federal application required.
