The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police says there is currently no intelligence indicating an imminent threat in Canada or to Canadians, as authorities monitor fast-moving developments tied to the war in Iran.

The association warned that periods of geopolitical tension can sometimes be exploited by extremist networks, hate-motivated individuals, or proxy-linked actors to incite hate-fuelled violence. While no specific threat has been identified, it said awareness and early reporting remain essential for prevention.

The statement comes alongside expert warnings about the risk of transnational repression, including attempts to intimidate or target figures within the Iranian diaspora. Police are also investigating an overnight shooting at a commercial property in Thornhill, north of Toronto. The owner of a boxing gym, an Iranian-Canadian activist, said he believes it was linked to his activism, while local police said the motive remains unclear.

Police are urging the public to report threats, suspicious behaviour, and hate incidents promptly, stressing that community awareness is a key part of keeping people safe.
