U.S. poll: 17% prefer Canada become a U.S. state or territory, while 66% favor Canadian independence

Research Co. reported that 10% chose Canada becoming a U.S. territory and 7% preferred it becoming a U.S. state, compared with 66% who favored Canada remaining independent.
The online survey was conducted Jan. 13-15, 2026 among 1,002 U.S. adults, weighted by U.S. census benchmarks for age, gender and region, with a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points.
