Two people were injured Wednesday evening after a building fire in Kanesatake, in Quebec’s Laurentians, in an incident the Sûreté du Québec said was likely triggered by an explosion, according to preliminary information.
SQ spokesperson Marythé Bolduc said emergency services were called at around 6 p.m. to Rang Sainte-Philomène for the fire. The two injured individuals were transported to hospital and their injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.
Local reporting suggested the blast may have involved propane cylinders inside a warehouse, and that the fire destroyed the building, prompting a multi-municipality response from firefighters. The SQ remained on scene as authorities continued to assess the damage and determine the exact cause.
