Canada’s provincial and territorial premiers are gathering in Ottawa over two days ahead of a scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney, with the economy, affordability and trade topping the agenda as leaders look to project a unified “Team Canada” stance before the upcoming USMCA (CUSMA) review talks.
The Canadian Press reported the meetings come amid renewed trade tensions with Washington, including fresh threats of sweeping tariffs of up to 100% on Canadian exports, on top of sector-specific duties already affecting areas such as steel, softwood lumber and vehicles.
The Prime Minister’s schedule also lists a First Ministers’ working dinner on Wednesday evening, ahead of Thursday’s premier-level discussions
