Qatar’s Ambassador to Canada, Tariq Ali Faraj Al-Ansari, explored ways to deepen Qatar-Canada cooperation in pediatric care, research and innovation during a visit to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa. He met with Emily Jamieson, Vice-President of Innovation, Corporate and Strategic Partnerships, and members of the hospital team.
The visit began with a briefing from Jamieson on CHEO’s pediatric services and the role of research in improving treatment, care and mental health support. Al-Ansari praised the hospital’s emphasis on the human side of pediatric care, particularly its support for children and their families throughout illness and treatment.
During the discussion, the ambassador highlighted Sidra Medicine in Qatar and its experience caring for children, including those with autism, disabilities and developmental needs. CHEO officials welcomed the prospect of closer contact with Sidra and expressed their readiness to meet representatives of the Qatari institution at the earliest opportunity.
A member of Qatar Foundation, Sidra Medicine provides specialized care for children, women and young people, alongside medical research and education. Its pediatric services include care for autism, developmental and neurodevelopmental conditions, as well as rehabilitation and other specialized services.
CHEO also combines pediatric and youth care with a significant research program. Its research institute brings together more than 250 researchers working across child and youth health, placing research and innovation alongside clinical care as key areas discussed during the visit.
At the conclusion of the visit, Al-Ansari presented gifts to children at the hospital and reiterated Qatar’s interest in supporting cooperation that can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. He also thanked Jamieson and the CHEO team for their warm welcome.
