Quebec will delay the implementation of its new French (language of instruction) curriculum in both elementary and secondary schools by one year, moving the mandatory start to the 2027-2028 school year, according to a statement issued by the education minister’s office.
The statement says the 2026-2027 school year will be dedicated to preparation and system-wide support. Starting in spring 2026, teachers will be able to take training and receive support from pedagogical advisers trained by the Ministry.
The minister’s office also noted that 55 classes across several regions have been piloting the new program since the start of the current school year, and feedback from the trial will be used to refine the final version.
