A report from the Quebec Institute of Statistics estimates that about 59% of Quebec jobs fell into the “highly exposed” category for artificial intelligence in 2024—roughly 2.7 million jobs.

Coverage carried by CityNews Montreal (via The Canadian Press) says women’s jobs are more exposed than men’s—71% versus 49%—a gap the report links to women’s stronger concentration in service-sector roles, while men are more concentrated in production jobs.

The report frames “high exposure” as a measure of how likely AI is to change work tasks—sometimes by complementing workers and boosting productivity, and in other cases by automating certain tasks—rather than a direct prediction of immediate job losses.

As broader context on automation risk, a separate analysis by Institut du Québec has pointed to vulnerable roles that frequently include retail and service jobs (such as cashiers and servers) and common office roles like administrative assistants and receptionists.
