The Silent Play

You may find yourself a cloth puppet hanging by a thin thread,
moved by the fingers of your own unawareness,
controlled however they please.
You may find yourself silently performing your roles,
with worn-out expressions,
while nothing in you moves except your body.
At times, your hand is raised in a wave
to an audience entertained by your stillness.
At other times, your feet move forward
along a road you have no desire to walk.
You may find yourself a father
even though you have never had children.
And you may find yourself a wife
while you are still a daughter.
Your roles keep changing while you remain silent,
and you may even play more than one role
without fully realizing it.
Father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, wife...
We were not given these names in vain.
Each title carries a duty,
and each duty has its own time.
You should not race ahead of life
or force yourself into a role that does not suit you,
for that leaves a deep psychological burden
and may plant weariness within you,
so that when its true time finally comes,
you find yourself unwilling to step into it.
So do not be a puppet
moved by hands toward what you do not love.
Cut the strings of control,
and be free within the boundaries of your own true self.
