A 20-year-old man is scheduled to appear in a Toronto court on Friday, March 6, 2026, after being arrested in Calgary and returned to Ontario in connection with the 2025 shooting death of 15-year-old Jahkai Jack, Toronto police say.

Police have charged Abdul Yeberebaba with second-degree murder. Investigators say he was taken into custody on February 27, 2026, following a Canada-wide warrant, then transported back to Toronto.

The case dates to the night of June 7, 2025, when officers responded to a reported shooting around 10:06 p.m. near Emmett Avenue and Jane Street. The teen was rushed to hospital and later died, police said.

Toronto police say the accused is set to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre (2201 Finch Avenue West) at 9:30 a.m., in courtroom 301.

Two other men have previously been arrested and charged with being accessory after the fact to murder, as the investigation expanded to those allegedly involved after the shooting. Charges have not been proven in court.
