Weather conditions across eastern Canada vary today, Saturday, July 4, 2026, with Ottawa seeing a calmer and less humid day, Toronto facing a higher chance of thunderstorms, and Montreal remaining generally comfortable while air quality continues to be monitored in parts of Quebec.

In Ottawa, conditions are expected to remain relatively calm through the day, with intermittent clouds and temperatures rising gradually toward 29°C by late afternoon. Current hourly forecasts show a mostly cloudy morning followed by clearer conditions into the evening, making the capital more suitable for outdoor plans compared with recent humid days.

Air quality in downtown Ottawa was listed as low risk on Saturday morning. According to Air Quality Ontario, the Air Quality Health Index for Ottawa Downtown was calculated at 2, or low risk, at 9 a.m. EDT, with a forecast maximum of 3, also low risk, for Saturday. The agency’s health message says the general population can enjoy usual outdoor activities under these conditions.

Toronto, meanwhile, is facing a more unsettled day. Forecasts show thunderstorms during parts of the morning, late afternoon and evening, with cloudy conditions in between. Temperatures are expected to stay in the low-to-mid 20s Celsius for much of the day, but higher humidity and storm risk mean residents should stay alert before heading out for long outdoor activities.

In Montreal, the day looks less humid and generally more comfortable, with partly sunny skies and temperatures rising to about 28°C in the afternoon. The evening is expected to turn clearer, offering better conditions for outdoor plans if air quality remains stable.

Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Air Quality Health Index page for Montréal lists Saturday’s forecast maximum at 2, or low risk. However, as wildfire season continues across parts of Canada, residents with asthma, respiratory conditions, heart disease, seniors and children are still advised to monitor official air quality updates before prolonged outdoor activity.

The main advice for residents in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal is to check local updates during the day, especially before attending outdoor gatherings. Ottawa appears to have the calmest conditions, Toronto requires more caution because of thunderstorm risk, and Montreal remains suitable for many outdoor plans while air quality should continue to be watched.
