A new humanitarian initiative, Canada for Lebanon, has launched a coordinated relief drive for civilians affected by the crisis in Lebanon, bringing together organizations that include the Canadian Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders. The launch received the endorsement of Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, with special inclusion for the campaign on the city s donation portal at toronto.ca, according to the initiative s official launch statement.

The launch statement says the campaign is designed to mobilize food assistance, medical aid and other essential supplies through trusted humanitarian partners, with an emphasis on reliable delivery and coordinated logistics between Canada and Lebanon. A Canadian Red Cross representative also said the organization had joined efforts with the City of Toronto and MSF Canada to raise awareness and funds for urgent humanitarian needs in Lebanon.

The move comes as humanitarian needs in Lebanon remain severe. Doctors Without Borders said on April 17, 2026 that medical and humanitarian needs were still overwhelming, noting that more than one million people had been forcibly displaced and that more than 2000 people had been killed and over 7000 injured as of April 10, according to local health officials cited by the organization.

The Canadian Red Cross says donations to its Lebanon appeal support the Lebanese Red Cross and local partners, while Canada s federal government announced additional humanitarian assistance for Lebanon on March 12, 2026 to help meet urgent needs including shelter, food, clean water and medical supplies.
