5 laptops that move ahead of the MacBook Pro in specific performance categories

The MacBook Pro remains one of the strongest professional laptops on the market, but a new wave of Windows machines has carved out clear advantages in specific areas, especially heavy graphics workloads, gaming, and some local AI tasks. Apple’s official specifications still place the MacBook Pro among the top-tier professional notebooks, including high-end M5 Max configurations, but the broader market no longer supports the idea of a single device leading every workload by default.
One of the clearest challengers is the ASUS ProArt P16, which ASUS positions as a creator-focused machine powered by the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and configurations up to an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU. In published comparisons against the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the ASUS machine showed stronger graphics and gaming performance, while Apple’s laptop kept advantages in selected CPU and efficiency-oriented tasks. That makes the comparison less about a universal winner and more about the kind of work being done.
The wider group includes the Razer Blade 18, Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10, ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16, and MSI Raider 18 HX AI. In higher-end configurations, all four push into RTX 5090 Laptop GPU territory, backed by flagship-class processors and power envelopes designed for graphics-heavy workloads, high-end gaming, and accelerated AI use through NVIDIA hardware. These are not machines built to beat the MacBook Pro on battery-first priorities, but to outperform it when maximum graphical output is the main target.
That said, the comparison is not one-directional. The MacBook Pro still holds major strengths in power efficiency, battery life, and tight hardware-software integration, which keeps it highly attractive for many professionals outside the world of gaming and peak-GPU workloads. So the more accurate conclusion is not that these laptops are simply “better” than the MacBook Pro, but that they move ahead of it in clearly defined performance categories.
In that sense, the real question in today’s premium laptop market is no longer which machine dominates in general, but which one is best matched to the work itself. For users chasing top-end graphics power or premium gaming-class performance, these five laptops stand out as serious alternatives that can surpass the MacBook Pro in that lane. For long battery life, mobility, and the broader macOS experience, the MacBook Pro still remains one of the most complete professional choices available.
