DeepSeek and Huawei Build AI Tools to Reduce Reliance on Nvidia

Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek has partnered with Huawei Technologies to develop programming tools optimized for Huawei’s Ascend AI chips, as the two companies seek to reduce China’s dependence on Nvidia’s dominant hardware and software ecosystem.
DeepSeek said it is making parts of the programming infrastructure developed for Huawei’s Ascend platform open source, including computing and communication libraries designed to help developers run AI workloads more efficiently on Huawei hardware.
The initiative also includes TileLang, a high-level open-source programming language aimed at simplifying AI chip programming while improving hardware performance. The effort addresses one of Nvidia’s biggest competitive advantages: CUDA, the software platform widely used by developers to build and train AI systems on Nvidia GPUs.
The partnership comes as Chinese technology companies accelerate efforts to build domestic alternatives to foreign AI technology amid U.S. restrictions on exports of advanced Nvidia chips to China. Huawei has increasingly positioned its Ascend processors as a domestic option for AI training and computing, while DeepSeek has emerged as one of China’s most prominent AI developers.
