OpenAI has selected Canadian technology company Shopify as the first e-commerce partner for ChatGPT Ads, allowing merchants to connect their stores and product catalogues directly to the advertising platform and manage campaign performance through Shopify.

Under the new integration, merchants will be able to connect their ChatGPT Ads Manager accounts with Shopify, synchronize product catalogues and inventory, build campaigns using store data, set advertising budgets and monitor campaign performance and conversions from within the Shopify environment.

The integration is being launched first for merchants in the United States, with international expansion scheduled to begin on September 23, 2026, in markets where ChatGPT Ads is available. Canada is among the countries currently listed for self-service access to Ads Manager.

The partnership carries particular significance for Canada because Shopify is one of the country’s largest technology companies, with roots in Ottawa, and the deal creates a new advertising channel for merchants using its platform to reach consumers through ChatGPT.

The system can synchronize product and inventory information and track e-commerce activity through OpenAI Pixel for Shopify, enabling advertisers to measure campaign performance and connect ads with purchases and other customer actions on their stores.

Shopify is part of the first group of direct integrations announced for OpenAI’s advertising platform. OpenAI also named HubSpot as its first customer relationship management, or CRM, partner, while Shopify becomes its first dedicated e-commerce partner.
